ADHD Is Not a Fad! It Belittles Me if You Think That!

by Cynthia Hammer, MSW, author of Living with Inattentive ADHD

Prevalence is the percentage of people who have ADHD. It has stayed pretty steady at 3 to 4% of adults.

Incidence is the number of new cases – people getting a diagnosis. That’s where we see an increase in the number of patients being diagnosing. The more we diagnose, the more word spreads.

Diagnosis or the desire to be diagnosed has risen because of knowledge and visibility. It’s as simple as that.

All the experts agree on one point: it is much better for someone with ADHD to be diagnosed and treated as early as possible because diagnosis and treatment can transform lives.
